Big Dorado
Report Date: February 17, 2008
With the fishing being fairly slow on the reef, mostly because of no current and dirty water. The gulfstream off Miami moves in and out on a daily basis. This week it was in about 700 feet of water. We decided to go out there and set up to drift some live herring. After about an hour we hooked up to a double header of dolphin (dorado). The bigger bull dolphin was eaten by a shark. We managed to land the cow which is the 26 pounder in the photo.

Listening to the marine radio, we could hear other boats getting the same sort of hook ups one or two here and there of big fish. An hour or so later we hooked another double header. The bull cleared the water and looked to be about 40 pounds. The lines crossed and the cow broke off. A few minutes later the hooked pulled out of the bull. We caught a couple of schoolies throughout the day and headed home with lots of fish stories.
