Fall Sailfishing

Report Date: October 5, 2008

Well after a long period of summer vacations and mostly just being lazy, I think it's time to start updating the fishing report. The past two or three weeks we've had some excellent fishing. Every fall around October we get a migration of bait that comes down from the north. Mostly mullet, sardines and pilchards. This year, maybe because of the near miss of a couple hurricanes, the bait arrived in mid September. This year they seem to be more abundant then I've seen in the last 10 years. With this came an excellent king mackeral run. Most fish weighing 15 pounds or less. Typical fall size fish. The sailfish are also making an early showing. Catching atleast 1 on every trip and yesterday catching 3 out 4 that we hooked. The dolphin or mahi mahi have been very close to shore, no more than 5 miles. Trolling along the edge we've caught fish from 5-15 pounds and loads of small tunas.
GREAT fall fishing !!
